A little advice on your first day....

The most important advice I can hand out for a 1L on their first day is about parking. I don’t know about you all, but I had some mixed emotions walking into my first day of law school. We were only told half of our first day’s reading assignment, I managed to get called on in our very first class by Professor McMorrow, and I was getting used to the whole Boston thing. When I say Boston, I mean Newton, because for a New Yorker shlepping up farther north, I did not realize how suburban our law school neighborhood is. It’s lovely if you want a yard appropriate for a wandering dog or three year old, but maybe not where you picture yourself right out of college or after your first job. I was ready for all the devilish Red Sox and Pats fans, but missed the memo on the BC cops hiding in the suburban terrain.

I had driven to school that morning with my roommate after making certain I had the correct parking passes and all that jazz, yet I found its more difficult to figure out BC parking than street cleaning rules on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. There was no indication of the correct parking spots for students, so I had found a delightful spot right in the yellow lines for my first day. When I came back out to my car, I was met with a monstrous $80 ticket from the BC police and a wonderful feeling of how welcoming Boston College really is. Luckily, there are some lovely people in the dean’s office who helped me reverse the ticket, but I want all you 1Ls to watch out for the eagle eye  of the BC cops.  DON’T PARK IN THE YELLOW LINE SPOTS. That’s pretty much all you need to know to get through your first day of law school. Good luck to all the 1Ls on the beginning of their legal education. The first year is what it is. Oh, and write for eaglei.
