If you, blessed 3L, are anything like I am going to be next year, there is absolutely no reason for you to read this. I do not foresee running into any difficulty in forcing my future 3L self to live life to the fullest, before (hopefully) being shackled to a desk indefinitely. The rest of you, however, should listen up. 1L’s, I know that you all are scared silly about the Socratic method or are fearful that the fact that you haven’t read more than ten pages of the assigned reading since high school might detrimentally affect your law school performance. 2Ls, I know that it’s tempting to sit in front of your computer all day, refreshing your inbox and simplicity to see if maybe the computer messed up and you really have ten and not one interview. But life outside of law school continues on! If you are not careful, you might not see this supposed life again until retirement, and then your arthritis and carpal tunnel will be too painful for you to enjoy it. And 1Ls, your professors are going to tell you this too and it seems really lame to listen to a teacher, but this time they are right. If you are part of the rare breed of actually cool law students and listening to teachers is too lame for you even when they are right, ignore them and listen to me. Because I am always right and very cool, in my head.
That said, here are a few examples of things that happen in our bustling little city that you will probably miss. So leave the library, the career center, the cafeteria, your bed, someone else’s bed, etc., and enjoy yourself this Fall.
Taste of Boston: This happens every year around Columbus Day, and it includes free music, sundry forms of entertainment, chef demonstrations, and comedians (I cannot vouch for their humor). It’s outdoors with food tastings and a beer and wine garden for adults. After you have spent sufficient time in the beer and wine garden, you can try and sneak into the kids’ area and see if you can pet the animals or get your face painted. Make BC Law proud. Oh and it’s free to get in, but the sampling costs some dough. www.tasteofboston.com
Harpoon Oktoberfest: At the end of September, strap on your lederhosen. Apparently Boston’s is one of the biggest in New England, and who can resist the temptation of German music and dancing! Just kidding, go for the copious beer. Self explanatory.

Pumpkin Festival: If you are feeling homesick, or just have some weird desire to indulge your inner child, there is a pumpkin carving carnival at City Hall Plaza. The nice thing is that the proceeds benefit Camp Sunshine, which is a national retreat for children with life-threatening diseases. The bad thing is you are going to have to get over the odd looks from parents wondering what you are doing there.

Sports!: If you have money to burn (be my friend?), there are some sporting event options if you still feel the need to chant even after supporting BC football every weekend. We’ve got the Patriots and the Bruins. That’s football and hockey respectively, just in case you were wondering.

Weekend Getaways: If you are able to mooch off a friend or family member with a house on the Cape or Islands, do it. Now. The Fall is a fabulous time to go as it is still relatively warm during the day, but without all those pesky weekenders from places like Jersey (ick). Besides, it is a lot more pleasant to read Pierson v. Post on a deck with a soothing, ocean breeze.
Culture: 2L’s, you guys need to find some common ground with interviewers this Fall. Perhaps a recent performance you saw can spark an offer-producing rapport. Boston Ballet is presenting Cinderella for one week in October. Oddly enough, America’s Best Dance Crew is performing for one night only in September. Also, the Boston Symphony’s opening night is at the end of September, and you may even be able to use your BC ID to get you discount prices.
