Interested in a public interest position?
BCLS’s Associate Director for Public Interest Programs, Freda Fishman, has resigned from her post. This comes at a difficult time in the career process as many students are just beginning the search for public interest/government positions. The PI/Gov will take place at BC on October 23rd and 24th, so we have to wonder what the impact will be for the students. Career services was notified of Ms. Fishman’s resignations in August and she agreed to stay until the end of September. Concerning Ms. Fishman’s resignation, Maris Abenne, Assistant Dean of Career Services, said: “We’re sorry that Freda Fishman has decided to resign from her position as Associate Director for Public Interest Programs. We are working with the university to begin the process for hiring a new Associate Director. All of us in Career Services remain committed to helping students with their government and public interest searches during the interim.”
PILF and the community service program is obviously the organization most effected by the resignation but their president, Lauren Graber, has a strong schedule of events for the year. PILF commented on Ms. Fishman decision saying, ” We wish Freda all the best and are looking forward to working with
Career Services to best serve the needs of public interest minded
students at BC during the search for a permanent replacement. We are
excited to provide a voice for the student body, highlighting areas
where we feel we need increased support. We understand that the
members of Career Services have
a tough job ahead of them and we hope to be available to them, and to
students as they begin their search for public interest positions.”
